Govt of Assam notified all private schools to waive 50% fees for the month of April 2020 and not to hike fees or cut the salary of their staffs in view of the COVID-19 crisis.

Assam Education Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted as following

Education Dept has directed all Pvt schools to waive 50% of their one-month school fees for April to give relief to parents. It is also directed that during pandemic there will be no increase in fee and no curtailment of the salary of teaching & non-teaching staff of Pvt schools,”

Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma also said that no school will be allowed to hike their fees without taking prior permission of the government & that schools violating the order will be shut down under the Disaster Management Act.

Dr. Sarma further said that if the lockdown continues till 30th May, then there will be a 52-day loss in the academic year, excluding holidays. This can be made up by keeping the school working on all Saturdays, curtailing the number of declared holidays, and reducing summer vacation If need be, they can even remain open on Sunday.
