Gauhati University (GU) will not conduct common entrance tests for admission to postgraduate (PG) courses in the university and its affiliated institutions for the 2020-2021 academic session. The admission to postgraduate programmes offered at the university will be done based on the performance of the students in the qualifying examination.

 "There will be no Common Entrance Test for admission into any Post Graduate Courses both for the University Departments and the Affiliated Colleges of the University for the session 2020-21.

Admissions will be based strictly on the performance and eligibility criteria of the respective qualifying examination."

Students seeking admission to GU and the affiliated colleges can apply online at the GU admission portal from 5 PM onward of 15th July and documents including mark sheets and certificates can be uploaded later.

The admission process of Gauhati University has been delayed this year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In a major relief to the students, the university administration has waived off all fees related to the admission, except the application fee of Rs 250. 

80% seats in the traditional programs of the university are reserved for Gauhati University students only. The remaining seats will be reserved for other students. In an executive council meeting that took place on January 25, the council had finalized that 10% of seats will be reserved for EWS category students. These seats will be reserved in various postgraduate programs in both the university department and affiliated colleges. The university will remain under lockdown until July 12 (6 pm).
