The government of Assam has made amended the Assam Public Services Combined Competitive Examination Rules, 1989. Highlighting of APSC Competitive Examination (Amendment) Rules, 2019:

  • The Main examination conduct as the following 
  1. Written examination and 
  2. Interview tests. 
The written examination will be as follows:-
  • Essay Paper
  • General Studies 5 Paper
  • Optional subjects - 2 Paper
  • Language-communication Skills - 2 Paper
The candidate will be shortlisted for FINAL ranking for interrview as per the Written test Marks obtained by the candidates in the Main examination.


  • Preliminary Examination Schemes and Subjects

Preliminary Examination Objective Type two papers will be as follows:-

Paper 1 (General Studies-I)
Paper 2 (General Studies-II)
Marks-200
Marks-200
Duration : 2 Hours
Duration : 2 Hours
Total : 400 Marks
APSC may determine the Total qualifying marks  of Paper-I General Studies I of Combined Competitive (Preliminary) Examination

Paper 1 (General Studies I)

Paper 2 (General Studies II)

Compulsory 30% to 35% questions related to Assam Only.
Minimum 33% needs for Qualify


Main Examination Schemes and Subjects

  1. Written Examination and
  2. Interview test.
Exam Names: Written & Interview
Total Papers: 8
Paper Type: Essay type and Objective (Limited Words)
Other Paper: Language papers (in the level of 10th)

Marks obtained in the Interview by the candidate for Preliminary Test shall be counted for ranking.

Total Marks: 250
Exam Duration: 3 hours

2. Paper No. 2 to 6
Paper Type: General Studies
Total Marks: 250 each

Exam Duration: 3 hours each

3. Paper 7
Paper Type: Optional Subject, Paper I
Total Marks: 250

Exam Duration: 3 hours

4. Paper 8
Paper Type: Optional Subject, Paper-II
Total Marks: 250
Exam Duration: 3 hours

The candidate after qualifying in the written test next process will be as follows:-

Interview Test 

Total Marks: 275

Grand Total Marks: 2275


Qualifying Papers details:
The qualifying papers will be as per Class 10th as per following details will be held :

Paper Name: Paper A 

Total marks: 300 Marks
Exam Duration : 3 Hours

Qualifying Languages as following :

  • Assamese,
  • Bengali,
  • Bodo.


The Candidates from Dima Hasao, Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong Districts who had not studied any of these languages in school shall be exempted from appearing for qualifying language papers.

APSC Latest Apply Process :


As per latest rules for APSC by Govt of Assam now the Candidates will be required to apply online using the website www.apsc.nic.in.The online Applications can be filled up to the last day for submission which will be fixed by the Commission.

APSC latest rules for exam Admit Card


All eligible candidates shall be issued an e-Admission Certificate before 3 weeks of the examination. The e-Admission Certificate/ Admit Card will be made available Online on the Commission website for download.The  Admission Certificate will not be sent by post.

APSC new rule for marking Pattern


There will negative marking for wrong answers marked by a candidate in the MCQ Papers as decided by the Commission. There will be negative marking for incorrect answers for all questions except some of the questions.For details read the below official notification.

APSC latest question pattern:-


There will be 4 alternatives for every question in Preliminary Examination. For each wrong answer has been given by the candidate, one-fourth (0.25) of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted.

If a candidate gives more than one answer, it will be treated as a wrong answer even if one of the given answers happen to be correct and there will be same penalty as above for that question.

APSC latest rules for Result declaration


The commission will publish the scores of the candidates through the public portals. The disclosure will be made in respect of only those candidates who will appear in the Interview/Personality Test for the Civil Service Examination and are not finally recommended for appointment.

The information shared through this disclosure scheme about the non-recommended candidates may be used by other public and private recruitment agencies to appoint suitable candidates from the information made available in the public portal.
